I find it confusing though that he's described as a tenor or haute-contre while his sound is more like a countertenor. But I like what I hear no matter what it's called

Dmitri Hvorostovsky (Bariton) sung the demon. He was great! — What a voice, what an intense demon! —
Very good the angel, a man: Vadim Volkov (Countertenor). Excellent the princess: Asmik Grigorian, especially the end in dialog with the demon... her death and resurrection.

I'd like to recommend this exceptional singer. There are several representations of Händel's "Orlando" going to take place in Ravensburg and Ulm in June, the main role will be sung by Flavio. I had the pleasure to hear him in "Niobe" in Dortmund in January, when he stood in for Maarten Engeltjes within a few hours time. He turned out to be far more than that....for me he was the ideal cast for the role. Apart from his musical skills he is a friendly and amiable person. Tickets are available and the prices are low. Maybe you, Saskia?

Yurij Minenko (Yay! Jur-iiiiiij!) will sing the rôle of "Ariodante" at the Opéra de Lausanne next year. Does anyone know if any other counters have sung this part on stage? Christophe Dumaux is scheduled to play "Polinesso". Poor Christophe - always fated to play the "baddie" because he's so darned good at it!
