Thanks for the article, Jana. Strange ... I see no "disconnect" at all between Philippe's "strikingly handsome looks" and his "crystal-clear, androgynous countertenor voice". The "disconnect" (if that's what they want to call it) is far more disturbing with say, Andreas Scholl or Yurij Minenko, who are both built like rugby centre-forwards! In any case, I don't find Philippe's voice so androgynous - to me it has always been unmistakably masculine.

"Disconnect"? What has to be the appearance of a countertenor to not seem surprising for Mr. Lawrence? Certainly ugly?.
All commentators faced for the first time with a countertenor voice, say the same: "androgynous voice." Bahh.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I just read the Star Observer article.

Well, like I said, I didn't even know the existence of countertenors until I was shown Philippe on YT, and not once that I felt his voice is androgynous. As a matter of fact, I could not 'disconnect' his voice and his appearance. It's a natural complete match. Philippe's voice is Philippe's, not a woman's nor sounded androgynous. And it applied to other countertenors.
