Review: The concert in Hamburg · 08.11.2016
from Newspaper "Hamburger Abendblatt"

Nice words from Joachim Mischke > Hamburger Abendblatt: 10.11.2016
(German language)

> Extract from the report:
...
"Jedes Wort, jede musikalische Phrase ist reiner Ausdruck,
klar, textverständlich bis in den letzten Konsonanten,
musikdramatisch vom Feinsten,
obwohl es hier eben nicht um weltliche Affekte geht.
...
Diese Musik überzeugt,
mehr noch: sie überwältigt auf jeder Ebene,
wenn sie derart innig und behutsam zelebriert wird."

Review · Concert in Frankfurt · Alte Oper · 10. November 2016

First Telemann then Bach — a nice program
Philippe Jaroussky and the Freiburger Barockorchster:
Magic and deep connectedness.

It was a wonderful concert! We enjoyed very much!

The Freiburger Barockorchester placed semicircular on the stage
and Philippe Jaroussky right in the middle.
We saw a beautiful small organ with light brown wood and carvings on the right.
Two television cameras had been set up. Recording microphones hung from the ceiling.

The concert began with Telemann.
The Freiburger Barockorchester played outstanding. A lovely unity.

Then we had a special highlight:
Philippe Jaroussky: „Mein liebster Heiland“ (= My dearest Saviour) · Telemann
It happened what I call: Magic!
Three individuals spread colours of lightness and love:  music  music  music
The laughing oboe, the touching violin
and the deeply moving voice of Philippe Jaroussky!

It seemed that the audience held their breath. Time stopped: Hypnotic attention!
A special silence filled the room: It felt like a delicate veil who enveloped the hall.
"Mein liebster Heiland": Beautiful seconds of magic!

And later my next highlight: "Ich hab genug!" (= It is enough) · Bach
I love this cantata on CD and DVD. It also was very beautiful to listen –live–.
Philippe`s expressive voice and a lovely further star: The oboe!
The text is sad. — Always good emphasis in all words.
Pain in the voice. Intensity. Audible grief.—
But I also discovered audible joy at the same time: The oboe played the joy!
The oboe told with a lot of joyful sounds.
Fast with tireless efforts... sometimes very independent... then calmer... and painful again.
> It seemed that the oboe told a lot of more beside the powerfull voice with dramtic text. So many single notes... lively and fresh like a waterfall...
The expression changed during the song several times:
The oboe accompanied the voice with loyal pain...
and then it told its own joyful story in a haunting way... Pleasure. But no grief for seconds.
Excellent:
The voice with dramatic text and the oboe with two outstanding feelings
melt to an inseparable team during the whole cantata.
I found it very touching.—
It´s a very interesting cantata beside one fact more: Bach is a genius too.

A wonderful oboe: Played by Ann-Kathrin Brüggemann!

Philippe Jaroussky and all musicians were very connected during the whole concert.

My personal highlight: "Schlummert ein" · (= Close in sleep, you weary eyes!) · Bach
Philippe`s interpretation spread his magic. It was very necessary to listen –live–.
What a harmonie. The tiny vowel -u- is a spirituel seed.
The sound breathes. Round and unique.
Without doubt: There is only one artist in this world
who is able to creat this atmosphere: Philippe Jaroussky!  good

Philippe gave us two encores:
Telemann was the first encore. A very beautiful piece: My further highlight!
Very simple, short, highest intensity and much dynamic. Excellent!!!
I could have listen 100 times... embrace
I hope that the upcoming concerts will include this song than encore too. flowers

Bach was the second encore: "Laudamus te" · (Latin language). Beautiful too!

Philippe Jaroussky was impressive in that he sung the difficult German text from memory.
Of course — he had a program book but he rarely used it.
No french accent and always good emphasis in all words.

Thank you, Philippe Jaroussky.
Thank you, Freiburger Barockorchester and all people who maked it possible.
My highest respect! It was again a very successful concert.
I would love to turn the time back.

Maybe we will have luck and the concert will be broadcast next year !

Enjoy the beauty in the concerts
and the new CD: Bach & Telemann: Sacred Cantatas...

wave
