| French critic who imagine experts are often rather acerbic with philippe. When the foreign press incenses him, French are fussy | |

| JaRoWi1647: thank you
Rikkapijemy: thank you for the review. And, yes, it is always the same think with the french critics:
absence de drame et de théâtralité, il manque la folie et la démesure meurtrières... | |

| What a relief....I already wondered if the critic saw and heard someone else... . Everyone who attended one (or more?) of the "Farinelli" concerts knows it was just the opposite....and he even improved from concert to concert....."A prophet has no honour in his own country" ? What a pity! | |

| A wonderful concert in Cologne, with a beautiful version of "Scherza Infida" by Mme Stutzmann, but the absolute highlight for me was the heartbreaking rendition of "Gelido in ogni vena", moving everyone to tears, sung by Philippe. One of the encores was "Son nata a lagrimar" which I would even prefer to the version with Mme von Otter. An endless queue of people waiting for an autograph. A perfect evening. | |

| Since nobody else has seen fit to do so, I thought I'd better give a short "compte rendu" of the Warsaw concert. Being an admirer of Mme Stutzmann as well as Philippe, I really wanted to hear this concert. The Warsaw date was the only possibility for me - an easy enough decision to make as I'm a huge admirer of Poland and all things Polish! The Warsaw audience was fantastic. There was much cheering and stamping of feet as soon as Philippe appeared on stage so the audience was very much pre-disposed to enjoy itself (this was Philippe's first appearance in Warsaw). The highlight for me was Philippe's aria from "Radamisto" ("Qual nave smarrita") - a few minutes of sheer Handel heaven - amazing how Handel always manages to hit the target (for me, anyway) when his lesser contemporaries faff around to no great effect! The first "rappel" was "Son nata a lagrimar" - very, very moving and like Duffy, I prefer it to the version with Mme Van Otter. The second "rappel" was a duet from "Partenope" - I think, but would be grateful if someone could confirm. A literal standing ovation - I could not see one single person sitting at the end of the concert. The autograph queue was not so large but it seemed to be moving verrr-y slowly - in part due to the, err, unusual (not unusual for Polish speakers, obviously) consonant-vowel ratio of some of the Polish names which had to be written on slips of paper and laboriously copied ... a great audience and a great evening.

| A little addition to my review about the concert in Cologne, for those who might not have seen it in YouTube already. Someone recorded a bit and, in this special case, I'm very grateful as there are no official recordings.... [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |

| Thanks for the videoclip, Duffy. Unfortunately, gremlins have invaded YouTube and I seem to be getting David Garrett and the Popolski Show ...

| Oh my...now, isn't that great, too? Did you know them before? And people say Germans haven't any sense of humour...did you understand it? I'll send the proper link in a second. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |

| Thanks, Duffy - "Qual nave smarrita" was my favourite at the Warsaw concert. I had heard of David Garrett but not the Popolski Show - now that I have, I feel that my German street cred has gone up a notch or two! A. | |
