I just ordered my copy from Amazon. Not the DVD version---I think? But it said "enhanced" next to the title, so one can always hope. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I got already my Special Edition with DVD some days ago and it is absolutely fantastic!

Incredible passionate and rousing music, performed with the expressions of the most devoted people- just gorgeous.

I would recommend to buy even the DVD - version because of this generous gift by L´Arpeggiata to us, the DVD is precious for itself! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The Ambronay performance looks perfect as it is but they have made it perfect-er here. I don’t believe it. This is such a simple melody… How do they do it?! My CD is on the way. I can’t wait!!

I for one can't wait to hear the recorded version of Ciaccona di Paradiso et dell'Inferno, which is my favourite from the Ambronnay concert. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Il ragazzo

'With a lot of spirit'. Have I got it right? My pocket Italian dictionary is not much use when I listen to and think about Philippe. I shall order a large Oxford version.

My CD has arrived. I was surprised to find that Ciaccona di Paradiso… was really a quite sober song. I wonder if it was L’Arpeggiata’s own arrangement to turn it into that masterpiece of a comic performance or if it had been done before. Either way, that is wonderful and so is this CD version in its own quiet way. Con anima. Molto, indeed Il ragazzo.

I have to wait a few days more for mine..the suspense is killing me, even though I've already seen these videos...

There's a nice review in the Guardian. The reviewer doesn't mention that Philippe already did a great recording the Sances Stabat Mater (or is it a different one?)...

LydianAirs

There are two versions of Stabat Mater- one sung by "Barbara Furtuna"
( traditional corse) and the second -by Nuria Rial ( Sances ) .

LydianAirs I wrote to the music editor pointing out the reviewer's ignorance (well, in rather more polite terms). As I said in Review section, it may be after all a good thing that Beata Vergine is being reissued.

hermit, I'm glad you set him straight! PJ deserves some credit. There are some other British reviewers that are a bit more familiar with Philippe's work, I think. On the other hand, maybe Nuria's interpretation makes it sound really different and the casual listener might not make the connection with the earlier recording...

Of course, I won't find out for myself what it sounds like FOR ANOTHER THREE WEEKS now! - thanks to the US release date being delayed to April 20th.... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

My copy arrived today, I'm listening to it now...finally. As it turns out the "enhanced" part was an "invitation" to an EMI classics club with so-called exclusive media that didn't seem so exclusive after all.... and this CD-rom feature somehow wasn't accepted by my macbook. I insterted the CD, then it made a lot of alarming noises before it came back out again. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I don't own a stereo and only listen to music through iTunes/iPod so I was worried for a minute... I then managed to borrow a PC laptop and import it there before transferring it back to my macbook via memory stick. *sigh*
I'm not so sad about not having the DVD version anymore, I love the fact that EMI classics posted over half an hour of extracts on their youtube channel (link upthread) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Got my Via Crucis CD today! It´s absolutely fabulous!!
I really like "Lumi, potete piangere" beautiful sung by both Nuria and Philippe, they should do more duetts. Their voices harmonizes so perfectly, I always get goosebumps when I listen to them!

And "Queste pungente spine" great to have it on CD now [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Not to forget to mention the DVD, it´s a lovely bit to have in my music collection. (and something to cheer me up when I´m in hospital later this month [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ) And for me personally it´s funny to have "Pur ti miro" on the DVD, I can spy my uncle sitting in the background orchestra [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ...and it´s the perfomance I first saw and of course heard Philippe....
