| Interesting background to character research for an Imogen Robertson novel: One of the lead characters in my second book, Anatomy of Murder, is the castrato Manzerotti. I had an idea in my head of the sort of voice he has, and have found a perfect match in CD of Philippe Jaroussky on his CD Carestini – The Story of a Castrato. Though the arias are of the generation before Anatomy is set, they are what I hear when I think of the 18thc opera. If you want an idea of what I think the ‘Yellow Rose’ Duet in the book sounds like, listen to his voice. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |
